Knowing that, let's get the obvious, basic advice out of the way that you've heard from many other people Which means you need to take breaks. You need to take time out for yourself to have fun, go for walks, exercise, meditate. These activities rejuvenate you, so that when you're done them, you automatically feel inspired to work.

Make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook : ]. If you require an hour long break, or a day long break, that fine - it's up to you and your needs. Our advice is to satisfy whatever that need is. It's like dehydration can occur at different levels - some people need a sip of water, others have been dehydrated for so long, they need two glasses. Give yourself however much you need to feel rejuvenated again.

If you can summon the willpower to just start, in the smallest way possible, the momentum will kick off.MCAT Review. Behavioral Sciences. Psych Theories. Physics and Math. Kaplan Key Concepts. The scavenging of myelin on the axon results in a greater surface area of the neuron exposed for interaction.

Thus, there is increased diffusion of electrolytes down their neural concentration gradient. The higher the concentration gradient aka, the greater the difference in concentration between the high-concentration area vs.

Oncotic pressure defined as a form of osmotic pressure, exerted by proteins. For example, low albumin levels in the blood due to liver damage because albumin is made in the liver would cause a low oncotic pressure. Antidiuretic Hormone ADH directly increases the ability of the blood to reabsorb water from the nephron by inserting aquaporins on the collecting duct.

When an individual's blood becomes hypotonic with respect to filtrate, the body would then aim to increase free water excretion to regain homeostasis. This means that the kidney would decrease the amount of water reabsorbed from the filtrate into the blood. This could be accomplished by decreasing the secretion of ADH, which would promote the loss of more water in the urine, increasing the blood concentration.

Another way to think of a decrease in anti- diuretics is the increase of diuretics. Myelin is an insulator that surrounds the axons and helps speed up action potential transmission, similar to how a rubber coating helps conduct and speed up electrical transmission in a wire, like your phone charger.

Hydrogen Bonding within a polypeptide chain between amine and carbonyl groups. An easy way to remember this is that cat ions are always attracted to the cat hode, and an ions are always attracted to the an ode. The larger fragments so not migrate as far from the well because they are heavier and harder to be affected by the given electric field. Overall positive charge on a protein.

Proteins with a higher magnitude of overall charge aka more charged proteins, as opposed to moderately charged proteins require a higher salt concentration for elution. However, once most of the active sites are occupied, the reaction rate levels off, regardless of further increases in substrate concentration. At high concentrations of substrate, the reaction rate approaches its maximal velocity, called V maxand is no longer changed by further increases in substrate concentration.

K cat. Kd is the D issociation constant, which is a measure of how easily the enzyme-substate complex dissociates breaks apart. In the presence of a competitive inhibitorKm increases. Therefore, because competitive inhibitor causes Km to increase, the x-intercept will approach zero moves closer to the right. Because the x-intercept moves closer to the right while the y-intercept associated with Vmax is uncharged by competitive inhibitors, the slope of the Lineweaker—Burke Plot will become steeper.

A noncompetitive inhibitor binds to an allosteric site, rather than the active site. Binding of the inhibitor to the allosteric site changes the conformation of the active site, leading to a decrease in efficiency of enzyme catalysis, which results in a decrease in vmax.

However, Km will NOT change due to nonncompetitive inhibition because any copies of the enzyme still in the active conformation can bind substrate with the same affinity. This causes an increase in the slope of the line. An uncompetitive inhibitor binds to an allosteric site, but only when the substrate is already bound to the enzyme. This results in an increased inffinity for substrate bound to enzyme and decreased dissociation of the enzyme—substrate complex.MSU is taking several steps to ensure the health of our community: All classes will continue virtually for the rest of the semester; Students are strongly encouraged to return home, and employees must work remotely when possible.

They excel at performing under the pressure of multiple exams, retaining a reasonable amount of material, and reproducing or applying it on a multiple-choice test. They are skilled in the art of cramming. However, most students struggle with a comprehensive test such as the Medical College Admissions Test MCAT where the volume of information is large and requires long-term studying.

Most students should and do use this time to hone their study skills. The MCAT is crucial to the education of the student due to the importance it places on the ability to develop study habits that are sustainable for medical school. Here we will detail ANKI, a popular study tool used by most medical students and a great way to maintain and measure long-term learning. ANKI at first glance appears to be a typical flashcard application.

On further examination, ANKI is much more than just that. This means that the brain is presented with information before it can forget, ensuring that it constantly stays fresh in your mind.

While it is not a perfect science, most medical students swear by it and utilize ANKI for their board exam preparation. Needless to say, this a powerful tool for an exam such as the MCAT — especially given that it supplies you with a way to numerically assess your progress and create goals through a number of assigned cards to review and study each day.

Once you have decided that ANKI is a tool you plan to utilize, the greater question lies in whether you want to use a premade deck or create your own deck. In deciding this, consider how much time you have prior to your exam and if it is feasible to make cards while reading a set of content review books or doing an MCAT preparation program. If you are short on time a good definition is less than days until your MCAT exam I would suggest using a premade deck.

ANKI has a search feature that allows users to review published decks that other students have made and shared. While this is a great way to study without having the loss of time in producing your own resources, it is crucial to review the deck you plan to study prior to using it. Each student has a preferred learning style and this should be taken into account when observing how the material is presented in each deck.

In addition, not all premade decks are created equal in terms of content. ANKI has numerous formats that you can use to create cards. Creating cards in different formats can serve as a great tool for students to learn stand-alone facts, diagrams, and test themselves with critical thinking situations.

In addition, making your own cards pushes you to consider what the content is emphasizing and how the material might be presented on an exam question. This skill of determining high yield content is essential as a medical student, where you are often being presented with volumes of information that are too large to memorize.

Overall, as you prepare for your MCAT realize that part of doing well is enjoying the format you are studying. For many students ANKI makes it easier and even a little fun to set measurable goals and see progress. Other students find that ANKI feels tedious. Be sure to analyze how you are studying and what best motivates you throughout your test preparation.

This will ultimately be what makes the difference in your score and your happiness in medical school and beyond. Jordan S. I took AP Chemistry in high school and tested out, so I never took that in college. Never took Sociology, Orgo, Biochem, etc. I felt as though I was at a major disadvantage in terms of courses compared to other students, but I still pulled off a somehow. I could not, however, draw most amino acids successfully if given the name.

I had also gone over my old microbio notes. I studied hours almost every single day for 6 weeks prior to the exam. I would say that there were maybe 4-days were I only studied for a few hours that day. I woke up at or 7am every day, ate mini wheats and scrambled eggs for breakfast, then drive to the library to study.

I started studying at 8am every day during this time. The MCAT starts at 8am, so you need to get your brain prepped to be thinking hardcore at 8am. I highly highly suggest pre-packing your lunch. After lunch, I would go on a quick walk around the building, maybe catch some pokemon on Pokemon Go, and come back.

I read every single page of the Kaplan books except for Physics and Organic Chemistry. I took notes on every single page, and made flashcards for basically every single term. I handwrite my flashcards because it helps me remember better.

I also color coded them to make them easier to find. I made over flashcards. Did I ever use them? Only at the beginning, then I stopped. I mostly used them because they forced me to fit the definition of a term on one flashcard. Just the main idea. Is Kaplan too in depth?
